Water Journey
BORÅS ZOO
Borås Zoo opened a popular water playground as part of Simba’s Playground. During the summer, the water play area attracted many children eager to cool off and play in the water.
“We cater to families with children, and a playground is a natural part of our park. With the water playground, we wanted to connect our concept with Simbaland, where we educate visitors about animal care, the environment, and conservation,” says Jonas Svensson, Operations Manager at Borås Zoo.
Borås Zoo wanted to enhance the experience for children visiting the park and decided to build a water play area—fittingly created during the hottest summer in years. The idea of incorporating water play had been considered for several years, but this year the zoo decided to make it a reality. The water attraction was the final step in the development of the playground area.
The water play area has been highly appreciated by its primary target group, children aged 4 to 13. According to Jonas, water play encourages active play, where children can move objects, splash around, and let their imaginations run free.
“The water playground was busy throughout the summer, understandably because of the weather. We received very positive feedback—children have always loved water, sometimes to the great despair of their parents,” says Jonas Svensson.
